SNIP SNIP — Infinity Hair and Tanning Studio stylist Deanna Mayo holds up more than 12 inches of hair just clipped from Tony Beers’ head. Beers is donating his hair to the Locks Of Love organization.
Beers has been a supporter of Locks of Love and on Saturday, Oct. 27, he became one of their contributors. Locks of Love is an organization that takes donated hair and constructs it into wigs for individuals who suffer from cancer or other illnesses or disorders that prevents them from growing hair. Beers donated a total of 14 inches of his own hair for the cause.
“I did some research online after I had a friend who had donated hair,” he explained. “The reason I wanted to help was because I had a friend in Florida who lost all her hair from a disorder and she got a wig from Locks Of Love.”
For the last two years, Beers had grown his hair out for the sole purpose of giving it to the organization.
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses they provide helps to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.
Lock Of Love’ mission is to return a sense of self confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children.
“I plan to do this again,” said Beers.
Beers’ hair donation was cut at Infinity Hair and Tanning Studio in Market Square.
