A group of business owners in Caribou have formed a committee to try to stop the loss of business in the local area, according to Paul Saucier, the new group’s chairman.     Called Caribou Business Solutions, the owners have been meeting for about a month in order to find answers to the problems that local businesses are experiencing, said Saucier, owner of Aroostook Cleaners on Sweden Street.
“We’re trying to maintain what we have without losing more,” said Saucier.
About 15 business owners in Caribou have joined the committee, according to Saucier.
The new organization’s members were “tired of sitting around and complaining about the economy,” Saucier said. “The goal is the maintain and keep what business there is in the city.”
The group is a separate entity from the city’s community development efforts and the Caribou Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
“We’re not there to point fingers or to downgrade,” Saucier said. “We’re getting our own locomotive going.”
The group hopes to utilize those more formal organizations as resources, Saucier said.
“If you’re a business owner and operator and you’re having business related issues, we’re in place to address those issues and give direction to resources that you would need to resolve the issues,” Saucier said.
A name for the organization was chosen last week and further meetings are scheduled and will be publicized. Business owners who want to become involved may contact Saucier at 496-7071.
