Military Street Baptist Church “walked the talk” this past Sunday as they put their Faith In Action and were the Church In Action, the CIA, again this summer. MSBC was already part of the clean up crew after the Fourth of July parade.

SONG BIRDS — Members of the Military Street Baptist Church Choir, and friends, sang to seniors at Madigan Estates last Sunday.
On Sunday, August 3, after a brief 9 a.m. worship service at the church, which included worship, communion, and an encouraging and inspiring message from Pastor Randall Burns, the congregation became six individual Faith In Action teams.
From 10 a.m. to noon, the teams put on their CIA T-shirts and the ‘church left the building’ to serve in various ways and in different areas of Houlton.
One team led by Marie Hagerman worked in conjunction with the White Cross Mission Ministry to assemble bags of items donated by MSBC members to be distributed both locally and also through the mission network. They worked in MSBC’s Fellowship Hall.
Melanie Burns led another team including the choir to Madigan Estates and Gardiner Health Care Facility where the visited residents and engaged with them in singing requested hymns. The residents were very appreciative and in great voice.
Four other teams went around Houlton to pick up whatever litter and discarded items were to be discovered at sites around the town. Jordan Nickerson’s team went to the Highland St Boat Launch Area. Wade Goetsch’s team worked the perimeter of the strip mall by the north bound entrance to I-95. Dale Flewelling took a crew to pick up around the edges of the strip mall by the north bound exit of I-95. Bill Goetsch led the charge around the Gateway Crossing Bridge and the walking path there.
When finished at these locations, many of the approximately 100 participants went up to the park/baseball field and helped clean that area as well.

MARKS THE WAY — Bill Goetsch marks the way at Gateway Crossing Bridge last Sunday as part of the MSBC clean up activities.
The teams then returned to the church to enjoy a classic hot dog lunch prepared by Ed Ellis and folks from Christian Sportsmen’s Fellowship and other Men’s Ministry groups. A great time of friendly fellowship was had by all.
MSBC appreciates the opportunity to be part of keeping Houlton as well groomed as it already is. The fact that Houlton Community is such a “clean place” was often stated during and following the projects. The congregation was extremely successful in improving the appearance of the community. Look for MSBC to be of more community service in the future.
