Although rescue is all in a days work for firefighter Stewart ‘Stew’ Craig of Mars Hill, he found himself spending part of Friday evening waist deep in water, rescuing rubber ducks from the Caribou Stream.
Craig and other members of the Red Knights a motorcycle group made up of local firefighters hosted the Rubber Duck Race, as part of the annual Caribou Cares About Kids Festival. The Red Knights sold 355 of the rubber ducks for the event. First place winner was Trinity St. Pierre of Caswell. Brian Lajoie, treasurer and quarter master of the organization said one half of the proceeds go to the winners with the other portion designated toward various charities selected by the group. The waters were high and swift in the stream, allowing the rubber ducks to travel the course within a very short period of time.
