The official opening of the Southern Aroostook Veterans Clinic at the Houlton Regional Hospital will be Wednesday, Sept. 3.
The opening ceremonies will start around 10 a.m. with officials representing the Veterans’ Administration conducting the ceremonies which will include a representative from the state of Maine who will be honoring several POW and Purple Heart veterans in the southern Aroostook area with the state of Maine Silver Star Award.
A ribbon-cutting event takes place at noon and tours around the VA Clinic will be offered. Ample food and drinks will be available. Veterans and their families are encouraged to make an effort to attend this opening and show support for the clinic.
“You may wear your organization headgear American Legion, VFW, DAV or others. Medals and/or ribbons would look good, so please wear any that you have. Let's show the other half of the state we care and we have waited 15 years for this clinic,” said local organizer Jim Burton.
“Thanks veterans for all you did and let's show them one more time,” he added. For more information contact Burton at 532-8238.
