Ricker Rumblings
By Lois Downing
Ah, the rain! Let it come, as it is on Sunday afternoon. More is forecasted this week. Some are saying we need the rain, others are disappointed but again, we have no control over it, so we might as well enjoy it!
A benefit supper was held at St. Mary of the Visitation Church for Bill Roach of Houlton. Bill is a patient at the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. The personnel of Irving Big Stop provided the food for the supper to help their long time Irving employee. Bill is a nice guy, husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and healthcare worker. We wish him well.
Kathryn Hall of the Bangor area was a guest of her mother, Lois Downing, a few days last week.
Here are some tips for the winter: lower thermostats 68 to 65 degrees when you are awake at home and down to 60 degrees when sleeping or away. This saves about 15 per cent of the heating energy. Reduce your lighting. Use lighting only where you need it. Turn off your lights when you are not in the room. Your clothing choices can make a difference, as well. Dressing in layers allows you to easily adjust for changes in temperature.
Congratulations to the Chief of Police, Butch Asselin and his department for alerting us to the scams taking place in our community and surrounding areas via the Houlton Pioneer Times and the Bangor Daily Newspaper. Ladies and gents, too, be alert to these polished crooks.
Still watching the Red Sox and the opposing teams. Several of the tenants here at Ricker including both men and women are fans.
The harvest is moving along day by day, but the rain will hold some farmers up. The harvest always gets completed through, so good luck with this year’s crop.
Thomas and Rita Kronenberger of Middletown, CT were callers on their cousin, Lois Downing on Thursday. Tommy and Rita have been married 60 years and are an active couple. They make an annual trip each fall to Washington County where they own property.
Thank you very much for the generous people leaving corn and other vegetables for the tenants during the week. We are always grateful for your help.
Thought for the day is taken from Isaiah 40:31: “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Have a productive week and God Bless.
