The December meeting of the Mars Hill United Methodist Women was held in the church vestry on Dec. 8 with 10 members and four guests present. It was the annual Christmas party with a noon luncheon. The vestry was attractively decorated in a Christmas motif. After an hour of eating and socializing, the business meeting was held. President Janice Footer welcomed the guests and thanked everyone for coming. President Janice led in the Purpose Pledge and Prayer. She then read a short devotional poem.
The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted as read. Joan Walsh gave a short report on her search for new round tables for the vestry. It was decided to keep looking and hopefully find some for a suitable price.
It was reported the Joan Boone had bought gifts for the Health Center and had left them in the church vestry to be distributed by volunteers from the UMW.
Joan Walsh read an interesting article of an unexpected Christmas “Happening.”
Clara Hussey presented outgoing President Janice Footer with the gold mission pin for her dedicated two years as president of the UMW.
After the benediction, the meeting was turned over to the exchange of gifts with a Yankee Swap. It was very enjoyable with fun and laughter.
Guests attending included: Betty Mahan, Florence Cook, Shirley Fletcher and Susan Boyd. Members present were: Janice Footer, Diane Ketchum, Elaine Bailey, Joan Walsh, Cindy Anderson, Winnie Anderson, Ruth Sylvester, Gladys Long, Goldie Folsom and Clara Hussey.
