Grades 5&6 Basketball
The Celtics clamped down defensively in their semi final match up with the Clippers to pick up the 35-14 win. Taylor Williams led eight Celtics in scoring with a game high 12 points. Parker Lambert poured in seven points for the C’s, while Brian Fournier and Grace Braley finished with four points each. Cole Staples, David Cyr, Michael Mahon, and Mitchell Kelley all hit single baskets for two points. Joseph Boone netted all six of his points in the fourth quarter as the Clippers attempted to climb back into the game. Cody Kennedy and Connor Murchison notched four points apiece to round out the Clipper scoring.
Kyle Nadeau torched the nets for a league season high 24 points, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Spurs to the victory.
The Pistons took a thrilling 36-34 double overtime thriller behind 15 points from Caleb Nadeau and 13 courtesy of Kyle Rider.
Isaac Michaud chipped in with six points and the duo of Andrew Lessard and Rachel Maxwell added free throws for one point each.
Jordan Lyford was the Spurs second highest scorer with four points, and the trio of Dylan Lovely, Matthew Burtt, and Steven Kinney each scored a basket for two points.
Taylor Williams scored five of her game high 14 points in the opening minutes to lift the Celtics to the 25-21 win over the Pistons in the championship game. Brian Fournier added four points for the Celtics, and Grace Braley chipped in with three points. The duo of Michael Mahon and Parker Lambert added two points apiece.
Caleb Nadeau poured in nine points to lead the Pistons attack. Kyle Rider netted six points, and Rachel Maxwell tallied four points. Isaac Michaud rounded out the scoring attack with two points. Congratulations to both teams on an exciting championship game.
February Vacation Activities
The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department will be offering activities daily during the school February Vacation.
In addition to the programs listed below, there will also be extended open gym hours daily. Open gym is from 1-3 p.m. for elementary students and 3-5 p.m. for junior high and high school students. The Forum will also have skating each day from 1-3 p.m., and skate rentals are free for this week only. Activities are as follows:
Wednesday, Feb. 18:
Movie at Caribou Cinemas. This is open for grades 1-5 and the cost is $5. The cost includes admission to the movie, a small soda, and a small popcorn. The bus will leave the center at 12:20 p.m. and should return at 3:20 p.m.
Dollar Day at the Indoor Pool. This is for Presque Isle residents only, others will be charged the regular fee. This is from 3-4:45 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 19:
Wii Fit & Fun Day. This is open for grades 1-6 from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be a variety of games available as we try to see who’s the best hula hooper, H-O-R-S-E player, and race car driver, among other games. The gym will also be open for activities during this time.
Friday, Feb. 20:
Take It Outside. Come explore the wonders of Aroostook State Park. Activities include snowshoeing, cross country skiing, a sliding hill, snowmobile rides, and other fun activities.
The cost is $2, and this includes lunch. Pre-registration is required for this event. This is for grades 4-8. The bus will leave the center at 10 a.m. and will be back at 1:30 p.m.

High School Indoor Soccer Tournament
The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department will host its annual indoor soccer tournament for high school students Saturday, March 21 at the Northern Maine Community College.
The tournament has a 5-on-5 format and teams are limited to 10 players. Deadline for registration is Friday, March 13 at noon. Entry fee is $70 per team. For more information contact the recreation office at 764-2545 or email at adampirec@maine.rr.com.
Middle School Only Night
The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks Department is offering open gym hours on Friday evenings from 6:30-9 p.m. for middle school students.
Students in grades 6-8 are invited to come to the recreation center to participate in open gym and various activities. Possible group trips, such as skiing and bowling, may be scheduled for future dates.
Take It Outside
Looking for a fun and exciting way to lose the winter blues? Then join us out to the Aroostook State Park on Saturday, Feb. 21, and Take It Outside.
Come learn the wonders the outdoors can provide as we’ll have areas for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and a sliding hill. There will also a skating rink, weather permitted. Equipment, minus skates, will be provided, but you may bring your own if you’d like.
There will also be warming areas with coffee and hot chocolate for when you need a little break. Lunch will also be provided at the snowmobile club.
Dig out those extra hat, mittens, and ski pants and come on out between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and take part in skiing, sliding, and enjoying the outdoors.
This will also be a Feed the County Drop Off, so please help others with a nonperishable food item. There is also a $1.50 fee for this program. Please contact Adam at adampirec@maine.rr.com with any questions.
