Dockery graduates

    Air Force Airman Allesha C. Dockery graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.        The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
       Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
       Dockery is the daughter of Lurry Lynn Poirier, of Presque Isle.
      The airman is a 2007 graduate of Presque Isle High School.

Chandler earns Air Force Academy honors

    Adam Chandler of Presque Isle, son of Steven and Susan Chandler, has earned the Honors Commandant’s List at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
    He will graduate in 2011.

Tweedie graduates from basic training

    COLUMBIA, S.C. – Army Reserve Pvt. Thomas J. Tweedie has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
    During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values; physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
    He is the son of Joseph and Julie Tweedie of Blaine.
    The private is a 2008 graduate of Houlton High School.

Bartman earns Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge

    The Maine National Guard’s Sgt. Kyle B. Bartman, of Canaan, earned the U.S. Army Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge at the Region 1 Competition at Ft. Devens, Mass.  
    Bartman is a member of the Maine National Guard Combat Marksmanship Team. The team provides an opportunity for soldiers to refine their skills, represent the state of Maine at regional and national competitions and earn superior marksmanship awards.
    The Distinguished Rifleman Badge is awarded to a soldier in recognition of a preeminent degree of achievement in competition matches with the military service rifle.
    Bartman and the Maine National Guard Team went on to compete at the national competition in Little Rock, Ark. Out of the 73 teams, Maine took third place. Bartman also received an award for placing 20th out of the 233 national competitors.
    In 2008, Bartman was selected as the Maine National Guard’s Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) of the Year and he is a distinguished member of the 11th Civil Support Team (WMD), based in Waterville.  Bartman is the son of Ralph and Cindy from Merrill. He attended Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle and now lives in Canaan with his wife April.

Ferris graduates

    Air Force Airman Jessica E. Ferris has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
     During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, core values and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches; and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.
      In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
     She is the daughter of Wayne and Joy Ferris of Easton.
      The airman is a 2004 graduate of Easton Junior-Senior High School.
    

Howe completes basic training

    Navy Airman Recruit Matthew R. Howe, son of Beverly J. and Leo Corriveau, of Presque Isle, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
     During the eight-week program, Howe completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
     The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. Battle Stations is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly Navy flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
     Howe is a 2008 graduate of Presque Isle High School of Presque Isle.

Jones graduates

    Army Pvt. Andrew L. Jones has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
       During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
     Jones is the son of Mel Jones of Fort Fairfield.
    The private is a 1998 graduate of Fort Fairfield High School.
