The Houlton Knights are continuing preparation for the upcoming 2009 campaign in the Maine State Eight Man Football League by holding optional Saturday afternoon workouts for all interested players.
Practices are held each Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the Maliseet Field just off the Lowery Bridge near the end of the Foxcroft Road in Houlton. The next scheduled workout will be held on Saturday, July 11. Regular season practices begin on Saturday, Aug. 1 for the high school team and on Saturday, Aug. 22 for the junior high school team.
Both teams are still looking for players for the upcoming season. All interested area 9-12 graders are eligible to play for the varsity Knights while all 7-8 graders can play for the junior Knights.
All games will be held in Aroostook County for the junior high program, while the varsity Knights will be playing their games in Maine, with one contest being held in Fredericton, N.B.
The varsity Knights and junior Knights are also looking for a team videographer, game sideline officials, timekeepers and scorekeepers, assistant coaches, statisticians, fund-raising ideas and support staff.
Any area youth interested in playing, or area residents interested in helping out with the program are urged to call Brian Reynolds at 694-1871 or Richard Cleary at 532-7526.
