Teammates play in senior all-star game
The Maine Softball Coaches Association High School Senior All-star games took place on Thursday, June 25, at Cony High School in Augusta. There were four teams from Class C-D East against the West all-stars, along with Class A-B East against the West.
Three Houlton High School girls were chosen for the Class C-D East all-star team. They were Erika Lackey, Lainey Herring and Nikki Eastman.
The game, sponsored by the Maine Softball Coaches Association and the Frozen Ropes training facility in Portland, found the West all-stars defeating the East, 5-2. Toni Cole of Calais and Suzanne Poulin of Ashland singled in the second for the East, along with Lainey Herring of Houlton. The team’s other hits, all singles, came from Kellie Peers of Limestone, Lona Sargent of Sumner of East Sullivan and Penquis of Milo’s Erica Lyford.
There were eight girls two each in Classes A, B, C and D statewide to receive the Player of the Year award. Lackey was chosen for Player of the Year 2009 Class C East.
