Saturday, July 18, the 33rd Squadron of the Maine Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, located at the Caribou Airport, will be hosting a search and rescue exercise. With squadrons from around the state participating, aircraft and aircrews along with ground search teams made up of cadets and officers will be honing their skills. Among the many missions practiced will be Homeland Security missions, downed aircraft and disaster photography.
Civil Air Patrol, the official Air Force Auxiliary, is a nonprofit organization that performs more that 90 percent of inland search and rescue missions in the continental United States as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.
Volunteers also take a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to America’s youths through CAP Cadet Programs.
