PRESQUE ISLE — The Northern Maine Community Recreation Association’s County Singles Tennis Tournament was held last Tuesday, July 28, with players from Caribou, Van Buren and Presque Isle taking the courts at Mantle Lake Park and the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Caribou’s Ethan Plourde bested teammate Mitchell St. Peter in the finals of the 10-12 boys’ division by a score of 8-3. PI’s Jenna Hallett knocked off Erin Patton of Caribou, 8-2, in the final of the girls’ 10-12 division.
Eric Laplante of Van Buren won the 13-15 boys’ division over Liam Hughes of Presque Isle by a score of 8-2. Carlee Pinette of Caribou upset Haley Lizotte of Van Buren in a thrilling match, 8-6, in the finals of the 13-15 girls’ division.
Caribou’s Taylor Jepson defeated Van Buren’s David Levasseur, 8-3, in the 16-18 boys’ championship, and Laura Collins from Caribou shut out Adaeze Olugbemi of PI, 8-0, to pick up the title in the girls’ 16-18 division.
This year’s singles tournament featured 50 participants. The County Doubles Tennis Tournament was held Tuesday, Aug. 4 in Caribou.
