Minor League baseball

    Griffin Guerrette outdueled Alex Brewer on the mound as Key Bank eked out the 3-0 win over Katahdin Trust. Guerrette also provided some pop at the plate with a double and two singles. Grant Stewart and Alex Tilley also added hits for Key Bank. Brewer picked up the only two hits Katahdin Trust could get off the pitching of Guerrette and RJ Gross. David Kofstad combined with Brewer to notch 14 strikeouts for Katahdin Trust. 

    K of C picked up the 7-1 decision over Savings Bank behind the strong pitching performance of Khasen Lowe. Nick Bartlett pitched well in defeat for Savings Bank, and he also picked up the lone hit for his squad. Lowe and Ryan Player each had two hits for K of C. Josiah Morse, Grant Bridges, Josh Baldwin, Max Bartley, Colin Daigle and Logan Michaud also rapped singles for K of C. Marcus Ouellette made the defensive play of the day with a great catch in the outfield.
    Savings Bank had the bats going against Katahdin Trust, jumping out to the early lead en route to the 16-2 victory. Nick Bartlett smashed a home run and a double to lead the Savings Bank offense. Jake Kinney, Bradley Kinney, Matthew O’Connell, and Trevor Miranda also added hits for Savings Bank. Alex Brewer led Katahdin Trust with two hits while David Kofstad chipped in with a single. Jake Kinney got the win on the mound for Savings Bank.
    Ryan Player pitched K of C to the 6-3 win over Key Bank. Player, Josiah Morse, Grant Bridges, Colin Daigle, Max Bartley, Drew Henderson, Josh Baldwin and Logan Michaud all had hits in the game.
    K of C also won the rematch later in the week by a final of 9-2.  Khasen Lowe picked up his second win of the week on the hill for K of C.  RJ Gross and Griffin Guerrette managed the only hits for Key Bank.  Lowe and Ryan Player each doubled for K of C, while Max Bartley and Logan Michaud contributed singles. Key Bank was led by the defensive play of Grant Stewart and Chase Levasseur, while Marcus Ouellette was once again the defensive wizard for K of C.
    Scoring was the name of the game when Katahdin Trust and Savings Bank hooked up for their second meeting of the week. Nick Bartlett crushed two home runs to lead Savings Bank. Jon Henderson, Chandler Paradis, Trevor Miranda, and Jake Kinney all had multi-hit games for Savings Bank. Katahdin Trust was led by the duo of Pat Cash and Connor McManus, who combined for six hits.  Also picking up multiple hits were David Kofstad, Carter Doherty, Isaac Michaud, Kaleb Cyr and Alex Brewer.

Major League baseball

    Kiwanis rallied to pick up the 8-7 win over the Elks. Sam Gray knocked in Jack James to tie the game for Kiwanis, then Byron Winslow was hit by a pitch to force in the winning run for Kiwanis. Gray, James, Oliver Gerrish, Ben Buckley, and Andrew Paterson all picked up hits for Kiwanis.  
    Colin McKay and Keeghan Lowe provided the power at the plate for the Elks, while Lowe, Cooper Madore, Brycen Libby and Chase Norton contributed with some great defensive plays.
    Kiwanis was led defensively by Buckley behind the plate, as well as Paterson and James in the field.

Travel team softball

    Last Tuesday, the Presque Isle junior girls travel team headed to Caribou to compete in a round-robin tournament. In the first game against Caribou, the PI girls soared to the win behind the pitching efforts of Kalie Ward and Krystal Kingsbury, who combined for seven strikeouts. Hailey Cameron led the offense with a double and a single. Taylor Williams and Kingsbury each singled.
    In the second game, the PI girls had a hard-fought battle against Limestone. The game went back and forth until the final inning, when Limestone capitalized and drove in the winning run. The PI girls continued to hit well behind the efforts of Kingsbury and Williams, who both singled twice. Kalie Ward singled and while on the mound, struck out five batters in two innings.

Junior girls softball

    Last Wednesday, the Mudcats took on the Thunder in a game that would determine playoff standings. The Thunder took the win and entered the playoffs at the No. 2 seed. They took on the third-seeded Rockhounds Monday in the semifinals.
    For the Mudcats, Taylor Williams cranked a double and a single. Jordi Legassie also singled and pitched a solid game. The Thunder was led by Olivia Hudson, Megan McKnight and Jessica Cameron, who all singled. Kalie Ward had another great pitching effort, striking out six.

Adult flag football

    The deadline is Aug. 14 for those interested in entering a flag football team into the Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department Adult Flag Football League. For more information, contact the community center at 764-2545.

Youth soccer registration

    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has begun registration for its youth soccer program at the William V. Haskell Community Center.
    The program is offered to boys and girls entering pre-kindergarten through grade 6 this fall. The registration fee is $18.
