MAPLETON — Two Presque Isle individuals have been charged in connection with a burglary at a Mapleton home that occurred Oct. 19.
“On Oct. 19, Starla Carney, of Mapleton, called 9-1-1 and advised that an intruder was on the first floor of her residence,” said Sgt. Tom Pelletier, Maine State Police. According to Pelletier, Carney and her aunt took up a hiding place in the residence, where they waited as they tried to determine the identity of the intruder.
“After walking throughout the home, the burglar was confronted by Carney, who was wielding a rolling pin. At that time, the burglar allegedly assaulted Carney and escaped from the home,” Pelletier said.
Carney pursued the burglar, identified as a male subject, until he was picked up by a vehicle operated by a female.
“The burglar was picked up by a vehicle later determined to be operated by 21-year-old Jessica Dennett, of Presque Isle, who had been waiting for him,” said Pelletier.
At that point, Carney called 9-1-1 again and provided police with a description of the vehicle and the registration number. The escaping vehicle was later intercepted by MSP Trooper Rob Flynn on Parsons St. in Presque Isle.
“Flynn stopped the vehicle and both Dennett and 24-year-old Aaron Dyer, of Presque Isle, were arrested,” said Pelletier.
Pelletier said Dyer was charged with burglary, a Class B crime; assault, a Class D; and violation of condition of release, a Class E violation. Dennett was charged with Class C criminal attempt and operating after suspension, a Class E violation. Both were transported to the Aroostook County Jail.
