“Well, it took a lot of planning, my Mom kind of helped me with the idea, but right now there are a lot of people who have no food and not a lot of money to buy any, so it seemed like a good idea to do this and give the money to the soup kitchen,” stated Simone Michaud, 11, a student at the Woodland School.

Michaud, through a Disney mini-grant, the help of her fifth-grade peers in John Bougie’s class along with outstanding community and family support, managed to organize and host a dinner on Jan. 29, that resulted in $1,000 being donated to the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen in Caribou.
The gymnasium was filled with the aromas of homemade potluck entrees and desserts, as community members and students filed in to be a part of this event. The evening featured not only great food but also a chance at a number of door prizes, musical entertainment by Caribou High School National Honor Society students, Danielle Lane (the current Miss Caribou) and Kellie Moodie; vocal selections by Woodland students and a dance performance that included Simone along with Abby and Page Small (Small Steps Dance).
Another familiar face involved in the evening’s activities was CHS teacher and NHS adviser, Ken Atcheson who helped serve the enticing dinner. It was revealed that the initial dollar amount realized from the benefit supper was $910 but was brought to the $1,000 mark by Atcheson and the NHS.
Michaud, a very busy young lady, who greeted guests, announced winning doorprize numbers and participated in the vocals as well as the dance entertainment stated, “The hardest part of the project was getting all the doorprizes and the drinks (most all of these items were donated by area businesses) but the most fun was greeting all the people.”

The gymnasium/cafeteria at the Woodland School was filled with wonderful aromas and community supporters during the Jan. 29 benefit supper.
Abby Small, Simone Michaud and Paige Small provided some funky dance entertainment during the recent benefit supper at the Woodland School, which Michaud organized.
