Caribou – Camille Charette, 88, died April 8, 2010, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. He was born in Fort Kent, March 24, 1922, the son of the late Alfonse and Catherine (Blanchette) Charette. He served with the US Army during WW II in the European Theatre and would tell everyone he was a “D-Day Vet.” He married Carmen Devoe and was employed by several area potato growers for many years. Mr. Charette was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters; Lizzie, Joe, Patrick, Romeo, Rita, Lewis and Dave.
Surviving, in addition to his loving and devoted wife of over 68 years, Carmen, of Caribou; are his eight children, Frieda Dickinson and her husband, David of Ashland, Carl Charette and his wife, Gloria of Gold Canyon, Arizona, Claude Charette and his wife, Cindy of Pittsfield, NH, Dianne Young and her husband, John of Caribou, Glenn Charette and his wife, Marcia Keefe of Alfred, Camille Doebener and her husband, Peter of Washburn, Catherine Charette and her husband, Steffan Duplessie of Dexter, James Charette and his wife, Allyson Humphry of Portland; three sisters, Theresa Pelletier and Cora Lawless both of Connecticut and Lucille Roy of Fort Kent; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. from the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou, with Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie officiating, assisted by Mr. Charette’s grandson, Rev. Stephen Young. Interment with military honors took place in the New Holy Rosary Cemetery.
