Knife wielding suspect robs Subway
By Scott Mitchell Johnson
PRESQUE ISLE – The Presque Isle Police Department is looking for a man who wielded a knife and robbed the local Subway restaurant late Monday night.
According to the police log and a media release, the incident occurred at 11:40 p.m. A Subway employee reported that a lone perpetrator wearing a black ninja mask, black shirt and black jeans – and brandishing a large kitchen-type knife – came into the restaurant and informed the employees that he was there to rob them.
After stealing an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect locked the two employees in a walk-in cooler and then fled on foot. The employees managed to break out of the cooler and call the police, who arrived on the scene at 11:53 p.m.
The PIPD’s bloodhound, Hunter, and his handler, Officer Kevin Schumacher, responded and completed a track. Officer Larry Fickett searched the area and found a black shirt, mask and latex gloves wrapped in a garbage can located in front of nearby business.
Local police were assisted by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police. Det. Bill Scull and Officer Fickett are the investigating officers. The case remains under investigation.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the PIPD at 764-4476.
