PI Wildcat boys shutout
streak now stands at six

It was an abbreviated schedule in varsity boys soccer play last week, with the Wildcat boys blanking two more opponents to improve to 6-0-1 overall. Presque Isle, in first place in Eastern Maine Class B, faces its toughest test of the season Saturday when undefeated Ellsworth comes in for a visit to the Johnson Athletic Complex.
Central Aroostook is now 6-4 on the campaign after a decisive shutout win over Limestone-MSSM Thursday. The Panthers are in second place behind 8-0 Southern Aroostook in the EM ‘D’ Heal Point rankings. Washburn (7-3-1) is fourth, Fort Fairfield (3-5-1) eighth, Easton (3-8) 16th and Ashland (0-7-1) 18th as every Class D team except Ashland is in the midst of harvest recess and will not resume their regular season schedule until early October. Summaries of games played through Monday, Sept. 20 follow:
Katahdin 7, Ashland 4 – The Hornets had their best offensive showing of the season at home Monday, but the Cougars got a big game from Micah Rodgerson in recording the victory.
Rodgerson had three goals and assisted on another to lead Katahdin, now 2-2-1 on the campaign.
Royce MacDonald notched a hat trick and Kenny Tarr had a goal and an assist for the 0-7-1 Hornets. Tyler Chasse and Alex O’Clair both added assists. Keith Holmes saved 22 of 29 shots in goal for Ashland.
Presque Isle 4, Hermon 0 – The Wildcats recorded their sixth consecutive shutout Saturday in Presque Isle, with Josh Allen and Wilder York each providing a goal and an assist to lead the charge.
Isaac LaJoie and Jacob Williams were the Wildcats’ other goal scorers, while Jonah Stephenson and Sam Clukey garnered assist. Goalkeeper Andrew Kofstad faced just four shots in the contest and recorded one save.
Central Aroostook 7, Limestone-MSSM 0 – On Thursday in Limestone, the Panthers picked up the sweep in their season series against the Eagles behind two goals apiece by Kyle Murray, Brandon Anthony and Dan Brewer. Spencer Stetson scored the other CA goal and Ross Grass saved two of four shots for the shutout in goal.

Presque Isle 8, Mattanawcook 0 – The Wildcats’ attack, led by a hat trick by Allen, was too much for the Lynx in Lincoln last Wednesday.
Stephenson netted two goals, while York, Williams and LaJoie had single tallies for the winners. Kofstad saved two of three shots for the win in goal.
Southern Aroostook 11, Ashland 0 – The Warriors had seven different players break into the scoring column in the rout last Wednesday played at Dyer Brook.
Holmes collected eight saves on 22 shots in goal for the Hornets.
