Image    DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA – Robert H. Wilson, age 82, a resident of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida since 1997, died on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at home surrounded by his loved ones and longtime friend, Diane. Mr. Wilson was born on January 20, 1928 in Houlton, Maine, the son of Robert A. and Flora M. (Hunter) Wilson.
    He graduated from Hodgdon High School in 1946. While in High School, he was a member of the basketball team from 1943-1946. He remained a fan of basketball his whole life. He attended Husson College in Bangor, Maine.
    He was employed by the Department of Agriculture from 1949 to his retirement from the state of Maine in 1980. During his career, he started as a potato inspector working from Limestone to Newport, Maine. In 1952, he became a poultry grader working in Augusta, Rockland, and Belfast, Maine. In 1954, the family settled in Augusta, Maine. He became a Supervisor for the Department of Agriculture and retired in 1980 after 25 years of service. He was then employed by the Federal Government as a grading and egg product supervisor for the state of Maine, and then transferred to Gainesville, Georgia from 1980 until his retirement in 1997. After his retirement, Bob and Anita Wilson moved to Daytona Beach Shores, Florida.
    Mr. Wilson enjoyed fishing, boating, motorcycling, bowling and golf. The Wilsons lived in Augusta for 25 years. They always returned to spend their summers at their beloved cottage on China Lake. He enjoyed visiting with his children and grandchildren there.
    Bob also loved to dance. The Wilsons graduated from the Belgrade Lakeside Promenaders Western Square Dance Club in 1976. They were also members of the Lakeshore Squares in Gainesville, Georgia and the Yonah Mountain Rounders , the Swinging 8’s of Daytona Beach, Florida, the Granada Square Dance Club of Ormond Beach, Florida and the Flagler Ocean Waves of Flagler Beach, Florida. In 2004, the Wilsons, traveled to England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales and danced with their club members in all 4 countries. His claim to fame was kissing the Blarney Stone. He enjoyed their many trips to Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska.
    Survivors include his wife, Anita of Daytona Beach Shores; his four daughters and their husbands: Joanne and Stephen Zayszly of Leeds, Maine, Linda and Rodney Layman of Moorpark, California, Marilyn and Ricardo Quiroz on Tucson, Arizona and Joyce and Robert Williams of Vassalboro, Maine. Mr. Wilson had nine grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Lawrence and Waldo and his sisters Evelyn Simpson and Madeline Rawson.
    Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6th at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 7th at 11 a.m. Burial and committal prayers will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Western Avenue, Manchester.
