CAMERON, Carolynn Parkhurst, 88, FALMOUTH & PRESQUE ISLE, April 26, 2012. Interment will be in the Johnson Cemetery, Presque Isle. Arrangements by A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, Portland.
FALMOUTH & PRESQUE ISLE – Carolynn Parkhurst Cameron, 88, died after a long illness on April 26, 2012. She was born in Presque Isle on December 27, 1923. She was one of the cherished daughters of Muriel (McGowan) and Edwin E. Parkhurst. She was educated in Presque Isle schools and graduated from Bates College in 1944. She met her husband of 57 years at Bates, John D. “Jack” Cameron. After his naval service in WWII and graduation from Bates in 1946, they settled in Presque Isle to raise their family and manage Parkhurst Farms Inc.
Carolynn’s life revolved around her family. She was a life-long and active member of the Presque Isle Congregational Church (U.C.C.). She volunteered for many years at The Aroostook Medical Center. She was a member of the Presque Isle Country Club, the American Association of University Women (A.A.U.W.), the Woodfords Women’s Club, and enjoyed playing bridge with friends and working on crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader and loved walking.
In later years, Carolynn and Jack moved to the Applegate community in Falmouth Foreside in order to be closer to their daughters and their families. For many years, they enjoyed the winter months in Ocean Ridge, FL.
Carolynn was predeceased by her husband, John who died in 2002; as well as a son-in-law, Christopher Hooson.
She is survived by her sister, Marilynn Bonenfant of Presque Isle; her daughters, Candace Alden and her husband, Jim of Auburn, Julia Cameron and her husband, Bob Benson of Falmouth Foreside, Rosemary Hooson and her husband, Jerry Clancy of Rockport, MA; her grandchildren, Caroline Alden Hanson of Lebanon, NH, Daniel Alden and his wife, Magda of Lowell, MA, Cameron Hooson Werth and her husband, Nicholas of Buckeye, AZ, John Hooson of Boston, MA, James Benson of Washington, DC; a step-grandson, Brad Clancy of Stoneham, MA; and her great-grandchildren, John “Jack” Werth and Sarina Alden.
A memorial service will be held in Presque Isle at a later date. Interment will be in the Johnson Cemetery in Presque Isle. Arrangements are by A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, 660 Brighton Avenue, Portland.
Carolynn’s family would like to thank the staff at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth for their care and support, Beacon Hospice, and her special friends and caregivers, Bonnie Bouchard and Betsy Stoddard.
