The Houlton Police Department wishes to remind citizens to license their dogs and save themselves a potential embarrassment of being summoned to court.
Under Maine Statutes MRSA Title 7, Dog License, Section 3451, dogs are to be licensed. Each owner or keeper of a dog at the age of six months or more shall on or before January 1st of each year cause the dog to be licensed.
Owners or keepers of dogs within the town of Houlton will soon be contacted by notice to license their dog or dogs. This notice will give the owner or keeper seven days of the notice to license their dog. Failure to comply will result in the owner or keeper to be summoned to court. In further compliance with the law, an additional $25.00 fee will be charged to the owner or keeper, who received such notice, along with the fee to license the dog at the time such license is issued.
Owners or keepers of dogs are reminded that they will need a current rabies certificate, in hand, at the time of licensing. Owner or keeper of dogs not licensed will receive notice during the months of March and April.
Any questions please call A.C.O.  Kevin Upton at the Houlton Police Dept. at 532-2287. If he is unavailable please leave him a message.
