CARIBOU — Ford Motor Company’s Drive One 4 UR School program was developed as a fun, engaging way to help high schools raise money to support their sports and extracurricular activities. Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealerships partner with local high schools to conduct test drive fund-raising events. For every valid test drive completed, Ford Motor Company will donate $20 to the participating high school, up to $6,000.

Griffeth Ford, with dealerships located in both Caribou and Presque Isle, recently held such an event to raise funds for Caribou Athletic Boosters on Sept. 8. Several of the dealership’s Ford vehicles were made available at Caribou High School for interested members of the community to test drive. Though the weather was a bit cool and rainy that day, about 150 citizens participated.
“A lot of people found it to be a lot of fun,” said Rob Kieffer, president of Caribou Athletic Boosters.
The event raised a total of $2,940 for the Boosters.
“We really appreciate the efforts of Ford, Griffeth Ford and the community,” Kieffer commented on the generous donation.
According to Kieffer, those funds will be targeted toward the construction of a new concession booth, which will be open at all types of athletic events held at CHS. The concession booth will be built onto the current ski building.
Kieffer advised that a lot of preliminary work will be done this fall and then more intensive construction will begin in the spring. All of the labor to build the booth will be donated by volunteers.
Neal Griffeth, owner of Griffeth Ford, said he was looking forward to participating in Ford’s fund-raising program again and hoped to be able to hold a smaller event next month to benefit Catholic Charities.
