ORONO — The Caribou swim team opened its season by participating in the Penobscot Valley Conference relay meet, held Friday at the University of Maine’s Wallace Pool.
The boys were ninth out of 12 teams, while the girls were 12th out of 13.
“[Our placement] may not seem impressive, but we haven’t beaten many teams at this meet in the past — sometimes not even scoring any points or placing at all,” said Viking coach Erin Tateishi-Ouellette, “so we did have a pretty good meet.”
Caribou’s best placements were in the girls’ 200-yard medley as Katie Pelletier, Krsna Johnson, Rachel Wasson and Laksmis Johnson were 10th and in the 250-yard freestyle relay as Pelletier, Jensen Jones, Olivia Engstrom and Wasson were eighth.
For the boys, the 250-yard freestyle team of Seth Paddleford, Ron Lund, Austin Scott and Tom McLean was seven; the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Darren Newbegin, Lund, McLean and Scott was ninth; and the 400-yard freestyle team of Newbegin, Grant Bennett, Lund and McLean was ninth.
