28th annual Maine Potato Conference to be held

    CARIBOU — The 28th annual Maine Potato Conference will be held Wednesday, Jan. 23 and Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. Each day, the conference begins at 8:40 a.m. and ends at approximately 4 p.m.

    The conference will feature two days of educational programs sponsored by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and a trade show sponsored by the Central Aroostook Young Farmers’ Association. Registration for the conference is $10 per day or $15 for two days. Pesticide credits have been applied for at the Board of Pesticide Control.
    Featured programs at this year’s conference will include information on seed treatments, virus management, soils and building soil quality, as well as green dig strategies, aphid management, estate transfer and more. Walter Whitcomb, commissioner of the new Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, will be discussing the recent merger of the two departments.
    On Jan. 23 at 6 p.m., a pesticide applicator training class will be given for anyone who would be interested in obtaining a pesticide license in the state of Maine.
