BUXTON – Eloise Frances Stoffan, 83, died Monday February 3, 2014, at Maine Medical Center in Portland with loved ones at her side. She was born March 22, 1930, in Caribou, a daughter of Oscar and Vivian (Johnson) Peterson.
She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School and Emerson College in Boston, MA. Her earlier years afforded her the opportunity to live all over the country from New York City to Texas, Michigan, Iowa, Florida and Connecticut before settling in Gorham, Maine to raise her family. She retired from Maine Medical Center in 1996 after a long administrative career.
Eloise had a strong interest in the creative arts and dabbled in painting, poetry, and writing. She also loved music, was proud of her Swedish heritage, and made the best pies in the world. Her sense of humor and quick wit always created laughter. Eloise was known for her generosity and often gave gifts and support to people who had touched her life in some special way. She was a wonderful mother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
Eloise is survived by her son, Mark Stoffan and his wife, Jean of Asheville, NC; daughters, Nancy Pierce and her husband, Tom of Buxton, and Heidi Johnson and her husband, Chris of Portland; sister, Sylvia Everett and her husband, Eugene of Sykesville, MD; nephew, Michael Everett and his wife, Paula; and niece, Beverly Everett and her husband, Jack Kocak.
