HOULTON — Houlton Regional Hospital has announced the addition of Dr. Amira El Magbari to Houlton Internal Medicine.  Dr. Amira became part of the hospital family on July 9.

Dr. Amira, her husband, Tawfeig, and daughter Merna have settled in Houlton and the transition has gone smoothly. Dr. Amira initially went to medical school in her native country of Libya and also worked as a physician in Libya from 2002 to 2008, prior to coming to the United States. Dr. Amira has lived in Illinois, Texas and New Jersey prior to completing a three residency at the Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Amira and her family arrived for their initial site visit and interview in December of 2014 and experienced winter first hand in Maine.  A priority for Dr. Amira was finding a small safe community for her and her family to live and start her practice with an experienced mentor like

Dr. Abouleish.  “We were very pleased when Dr. Amira and her family chose Houlton, Maine to make their home,” Janene Moran, physician recruiter for Houlton Regional Office said.

Tawfeig Magbari is enrolled at Northern Maine Community College in the electrical construction and maintenance program.  Prior to coming to the United States, he was an electrical engineer in Libya.  Dr. Amira and her family have enjoyed their new community and have been visiting local restaurants. They particularly are enjoying the fresh Maine seafood.

Tom Moakler, CEO of Houlton Regional Hospital is “Pleased to have had Dr. Amira join Dr. Hassan Abouleish, Dr. James Jiansakul, Dr. Solomon Olabiyi and Matt Cowan, PA in the Houlton Internal Medicine practice.  We are very fortunate to have the five providers we now have on staff in this practice.”
