Elementary students learn about careers

DYER BROOK, Maine —On May 12, Southern Aroostook Community School elementary students participated in Career Day put on through the Elementary School Counseling/Guidance Program.

Students were able to listen to presenters from Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Island Falls Ambulance, Oakfield Fire Department and Maine Department of Transportation speak about their jobs and learn about equipment used on the job.

In addition to presenters students were able to dress up as a future career they may want to have.

Elementary School Counselor Korinne Brannen stated, “This event is a highlight in my counseling/guidance program and students look forward to career day and begin asking at the beginning of the school year when it’s going to happen. I try to find presenters from the local area and careers that my students are interested in and familiar with. This is only my second year hosting Career Day but I foresee this to become an annual event.”
