HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Golf Club was bustling with different activities this past week. Last Friday evening we had the second Couples Scramble of the summer with 14 couples participating in the All Birdies Count Event. The team of Brent and Theresa Lincoln and Bob McCarthy and Casey prevailed as Champs. Second Place went to the team of Rob and LeeAnn Kinens, Abby and Anthony. Team Marino (Misty and Tony) and King (Melinda and Mark) finished third. Congrats to the winners and thanks to all participants for your support.

Dave Grant and Bruce Nason are working again this summer (their 15-plus year), with over 30 junior golfers age 6-16 on Monday mornings from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m., and will continue to help these youngsters develop and appreciate our great game.

The Men’s Twilite League is well underway and two teams, Bob Gray/Jerry York in the 3 p.m. division and Tony Marino/Bruce Avery in the 4 p.m. division have a healthy lead over the second- and third-place teams. But both teams are being chased by accomplished players and I believe an upset or two will occur soon.

The Ladies League continues to have lots of players involved this summer, averaging 12-15 players in the morning session (which begins at 9 a.m. each Tuesday) and the same in the Evening session at 5 p.m.

The third annual GFL (Golf For Life) scramble will be held on Sunday, July 29, at 2 p.m. This event pairs first-year players with other members in a fun event. We invite all members and Golf For Life players to sign up for this nine-hole scramble. Call the Clubhouse at 532-2662 to sign up now. Deadline for sign up is Friday, July 27.

Members please take note: the 2018 Club Championship and Presidents Cup Championship has been rescheduled to Aug. 25 and 26. It’s not too early to start planning and practicing for your chance to compete in this event.

The Lakeside Restaurant has been really busy this summer. The tasty food served up by Chef Bill and Nancy and their wonderful staff has been a treat for all comers. Coming July 27 will be an exciting Friday night as they present a return of Paul LaPointe for your listening and dining pleasure. Call Nancy at 694-9494 for reservations.

With the course in great condition and the weather like we’ve waited for, why not come out with a friend or three and play nine holes? See you on the links.
