Golfers making up 26 three-person teams played for a worthy cause at the 13th annual TD Bank/NMCC Golf Tournament Aug. 9 at Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield.

A total of $18,500 was raised with the funds going toward student scholarships at the Presque Isle-based Northern Maine Community College.

The sponsorships and donations from many local and statewide businesses amounted to about $12,000. The live and silent auction items raised nearly $6,000. Tickets to a Boston Red Sox game, an autographed jersey from Boston Bruins player Brad Marchand, and an autographed baseball from Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Heath Hembree were the featured items.

“TD Bank is very pleased with our collaboration with the Northern Maine Community College Foundation,” said Jeff Pangburn, vice president, relationship manager in commercial services. “This tournament has provided a wonderful opportunity to get together with our clients and others in the community for a day of fun and support of NMCC students.”

“We are very grateful for the continuing support of TD Bank as the title sponsor of this tournament. All of our sponsors and players are generous in their support of the NMCC Foundation and ultimately to our students,” said Dr. Dottie Martin, executive director of the NMCC Foundation. “In its 13-year history, this tournament has raised over $230,000 for scholarships.”

The winning team at the tournament was Bobby Russell, Hiram Towle and Ralph Michaud. First net went to the team of Bill Egeler, Bill Casavant and Steve Clark. Second net went to Steve Ouellette, Justin Dubois and David Saucier. The team of Jeff Pangburn, Joey Bard and Scott Kent took third net.

Hiram Towle won the longest men’s drive, and Jennifer Flynn won the longest women’s drive. For the closest to the pin contest, Jason Woolard won the prize and the chipping contest went to Ralph Michaud, who holed his shot.

In addition to the title sponsor, major sponsors were ABM Mechanical, Louisiana Pacific Corporation, McCain Foods and MMG Insurance. There were several lunch and hole sponsors who contributed to the event.
