LIMESTONE, Maine — Twin Riverswood will host the Limestone, Maine, Renaissance Fair Saturday, Aug. 27, and Sunday, Aug. 28, at Albert Michaud Memorial Park near the tennis courts, located on the Van Buren Road in downtown Limestone.
The Limestone Development Foundation developed the idea in 2018, when some members of the organization wanted a medieval-themed event that could include the students from MSSM and also bring more tourism to the town.
Karralena Castaway, LDF secretary and leader of the local medieval educational nonprofit called Twin Riverswood, took the festival on, and in May 2019 the first Renaissance Faire was held.
When COVID-19 shut down local events, planning for the faire continued and last year’s event had a small showing but favorable reviews, with merchants, demonstrators and performers who wanted to return.
This year’s event will feature demonstrations, performances by the Recycled Shakespeare Company and a medieval Medley with local musical artist Cori Lovejoy (Coriandra). children’s activities including the Knight and Damsels Tea, various merchants and a Masquerade Pageant in keeping with this year’s theme “Enter the Enchanted Realm,” along with various classes for all in the Academia Mystica.
Twin Riverswood will have their display and Tinker’s Dame, where some group members sell their wares. Saturday will feature a Knight and Damsels Tea for children 3 and up with activities and refreshments. A Dungeons and Dragons cosplay, archery and swordfighters are among other events. A masquerade pageant will be held for all ages.
The faire will go on, rain or shine.
A website has been developed for this event which is up and running; people can also see updates on the Limestone Maine Renaissance Faire Facebook page.
Fundraising efforts started in May with sponsorships from local businesses. Aroostook Partners In the Arts has awarded a grant and there was also a GoFundMe effort.
Merchants and food vendors must provide their own pavilion/canopy as well as any energy source they may need.
