A new children’s book has come to The County.
Dana Allison of Castle Hill wrote “Snowflake, The Little, White Kitty, Disappears,” while her granddaughter, Persephone Bennett of New York, illustrated.
The story about a missing cat and its return home evolved over 20 years. The book tells what happens when two cats and a dog go out to play on a winter’s day. Readers will be able to discover why Snowflake is such a mess when she comes home.
“Snowflake” engages youngsters with a simple, sincere story common to anyone who has owned a pet.

At 90-plus, Allison is a master quilter, artist and holder of the Boston Post Cane for Castle Hill. She is the wife of the late Dr. Horace Allison.
Bennett, a fashion designer and artist, made drawings to illustrate the story when she was 5. This became a handmade book for her grandmother. A few years later, she redrew the drawings to showcase some of the talents and techniques she now uses in her fashion design work, some of which appears in current fashion magazines.
The Aroostook Agency on Aging encouraged Allison to consider turning this collection into a children’s book. The result has now been published.
Copies are available through Neighborhood Books, 461 Main Street, in Presque Isle.
A signing party for the writer and illustrator is being planned for March.
