BANGOR, Maine — Northern Maine Community College students competed at the SkillsUSA Maine championships on March 13-14, earning medals in welding and electrical construction wiring.
The competition took place at multiple locations in Bangor, including Eastern Maine Community College, United Technologies Center, the Cross Insurance Center and Mid-Maine Technical Center.
NMCC students competed in their respective trades, earning the following medals: Trystan Rioux earned gold in welding, Ashton Lagasse received silver in welding, Robbie Poiesz took gold in electrical construction wiring and Matt Chamberland earned silver in electrical construction wiring.
“We commend our students for their dedication and strong work ethic, which were evident in their performance at SkillsUSA,” NMCC Interim President Angela R. Buck said. “Their success is a direct result of their commitment to their trade and the ongoing support of our faculty, who are dedicated to our students’ success.”
Students were supported by faculty members Jake Chouinard (electrical construction) and Rick Taggett (welding).
SkillsUSA is a national organization focused on workforce readiness, providing students with opportunities to develop their technical and leadership skills.
