It has been a while since I have written about my Ollie boy. I have been slacking in that department. Ollie is now 2 1/2, and he has turned into a very good boy.
He is still very active and mischievous, loves his marrow bones I cook for him and loves his squeaky toys, to the extent that he will pull out one of the three toy boxes to the middle of the floor and proceed to empty it out and then just leave it with the toys strewn all around the floor. I will try to pick up and as fast as I put the toys back in the box, he lifts them out again, so I just leave them until it’s bedtime.
Ollie is very attached to me. I’m his mom. He is my little protector and goes everywhere I go. There is no privacy with Ollie. If I go in my backyard to the garden or to pick raspberries, he is by my side, even out to hang clothes. He sits right there and watches everything. I call it his standing guard pose.
If I go anywhere and he is not with me, my husband says he waits and just watches the road and driveway waiting for me to come home. Ollie is a big protector of our little toy Yorkie poo, Sadie. He follows her everywhere when she is out, although she is never out alone. One of us, myself or my husband, is always with her.
Ollie trails along with Sadie, smells everything she smells, and every once in a while, Sadie turns to see if Ollie is still following her. They are pretty cute together and you can tell they are pals. They are spoiled, but that is the way it is supposed to be.
Ollie loves to trap, especially raccoons. We get those bandits in our garden, and they are a nuisance. They demolish the corn stalks and put teeth holes in the zucchini, so we trap the critters and deliver them to a new home a few miles up the road.
Sometimes in the night Ollie wakes my husband up. He needs a potty break and to check his traps. Out the door they go. My husband will tell Ollie, “Check your traps,” and off he goes, full speed ahead, and if he starts sassing, we know we have a coon.
My husband will take the trap with the coon, with Ollie still sassing, load it on the truck and off they go; a few miles away and the coon has a new home. That’s Ollie’s highlight of the night.
Ollie loves his truck rides, although he has to share the window seat with his sister Sadie, but they both love the wind in their face. He especially likes a trip to Houlton Farms Dairy for his little pup cup of vanilla ice cream. By the time Ollie is done with his, it’s usually all over his face, and if he gets a chance, he will steal a little of Sadie’s pup cup too.
For those of you who don’t know, Ollie is a mixed Boston terrier, French bulldog and pug. He looks and is shaped like a pug. He is pretty stocky at 32 pounds. He is a funny little dog. When you talk to him, his head is always tilting one way or the other.
Ollie is a smart boy, he can shake, say please and I taught him to give kisses.
And snore — oh boy, does this dog snore. If he’s in my recliner with me, I need to turn up the TV. He has to be close, but we don’t mind. We truly love our pups.
