PRESQUE ISLE, Maine  — Thanks to a generous $65,000 grant from the Davis Family Foundation, Northern Light AR Gould Hospital was recently able to purchase and install 15 new treatment chairs in the Presque Isle dialysis center.

“We are extremely appreciative of the grant from the Davis Family Foundation. Some of our patients travel more than 90 miles to receive treatment and most of our patients spend hours several days a week here. The extra comfort these chairs provide patients receiving dialysis treatment goes a long way in helping them feel well cared for,” says Samantha Carlow, manager of the dialysis center.

“These new chairs are very nice and it’s really great that they have electronic controls so we can easily make adjustments,” says Galen Dionne of Caribou. Galen appreciates the difference, since he has been sitting in treatment chairs three and a half hours a day, three days a week for 10 years now. “I’m grateful to have such a caring dialysis center locally and be able to stay close to my family while receiving treatment.”

As the only dialysis center in Aroostook County, the facility provided more than 12,600 patient visits in the last fiscal year. Dialysis treatment helps those experiencing kidney failure by filtering toxins and excess fluid from your blood. Northern Light Health Foundation is now working to raise funds to assist in the purchase of new machines for each of the patient treatment stations.
