BRIDGEWATER, Maine – Greta R. Young, 95, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at a Mars Hill health care facility. She was born on October 28, 1922, in Rosedale, N.B., Canada, the daughter of Ernest and Edith (Carmichael) DeLong.

Greta grew up in Rosedale and graduated from local schools. She next graduated from hairdressing school and then went to work as a beautician. She married Paul Young on August 18, 1948, and together they would raise three children. Greta and Paul moved to Bridgewater in 1950 where they started Young’s Barbershop and Young’s Beauty Shop, where they worked together for fifty years. Greta was a fantastic cook and enjoyed gardening, canning, and making jellies. She loved her family and her favorite times were when she was with them. She was a past member of the Rebekahs, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Hobby Club, and attended the Free Baptist Church in Bridgewater.
She leaves behind her husband of nearly seventy years, Paul Young of Bridgewater; three children, Joan Kingsbury and her husband, R.C. “Ray,” of Newburyport, MA, Brian Young and his wife, Devi, of Presque Isle, Paula Flewelling and her husband, Ronnie, of Monticello; five grandchildren, Dale and his wife, Carrie, Shelly and her husband, Joe, Justin and his wife, Melissa, Matthew, Michael; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Paul, Grace, Brad, Allee, Aiden, and Emma; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her first husband, Ivan Orser, a grandson, Brad Flewelling, a brother, Glen DeLong, and two sisters, Hazel VanDine and Madeline Stiles.
Greta’s family would also like to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Aroostook Health Center for all of the wonderful care given to her.
Friends may call at 12 noon on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Free Baptist Church in Bridgewater, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Peters officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall. A service of committal will take place at a later date at Smith Cemetery, Bridgewater.
