The country must reset its morals

To the editor:

As a resident of Maine and The County, I feel inspired to express my concern regarding the story of little Hercules. (Wednesday, Dec. 31, The County print edition – Ed.)

If our country had some kind of surplus cash flow I would have nothing to say. Make the little guy the $6 million bionic cat.  But we do not.

I feel as though at times such as these, from a spiritual perspective, the few are those with the voice of reason. In my town there have been several fires. [In] one of those, an elderly lady survived and now is homeless. I’m not uncaring, but the resources used for this kitten could have been better allocated for a human. How fitting Hercules is named after a Greek deity while the shelter is called the Ark.

Great story, though. As a praying man, I’ll pray that the ending of his story does not look like that of an otter that was “rescued” only to be eaten by a shark moments after it was set free.

Wake up, people. Our country is beyond bankrupt financially and spiritually and is in serious decay and moral decline. If we truly want America to be “great again,” God must be first again and the moral standards reset to basic moral absolutes.

When it comes to good morals vs. bad ones, there is not nor should [there] be any gray areas. When a little bit of evil is OK or “tolerated,” who decides the “little bit” that we’ll accept? If the Bible decides the book is opened, case is settled and closed. If man decides the book gets closed, and everything is up for debate.
