Eighty-eight golfers, including several past champions, competed on Sunday, July 12, in the 42nd annual Cary Classic Benefit Golf Tournament, the Jefferson Cary Foundation’s signature fundraising event supporting Cary Medical Center.

Michael Bruce captured the Overall Men’s low gross title with an 18-hole score of 69, while Emily Jose claimed the Overall Ladies low gross championship with a score of 80.

The victories marked Jose’s 11th Cary Classic title and Bruce’s second tournament championship.

The tournament also featured junior and senior divisions. Logan Caron of Presque Isle Country Club won the junior division nod with a gross score of 84, while Phil Pelletier of Caribou Country Club took home the senior division title with a gross score of 73.

The Cary Classic once again featured more than $7,000 in prizes, including closest-to-the-pin contests and four opportunities to win a hole-in-one prize, including a grand prize of $25,000. In addition to cash prizes, first-place winners received commemorative Cary Classic glassware, while the low gross champions were presented with the prestigious Norman Collins Award.

This year’s tournament brought together 60 sponsors and “tremendous community support,” officials said, raising more than $40,000 to benefit modernization projects at Cary Medical Center. The Jefferson Cary Foundation credited the event’s success to the continued generosity of local businesses, organizations, volunteers and golfers.

“This tournament continues to demonstrate what our community can accomplish when people come together for a common purpose,” said Chelsey Anderson, executive director of the Jefferson Cary Foundation. “Every sponsor, volunteer, golfer, and donor played a role in making this year’s event another tremendous success, and we’re incredibly grateful for their support.”

Katahdin Trust Company, the tournament’s corporate sponsor for the past 12 years, has remained a steadfast supporter of the Cary Classic and its mission to strengthen local healthcare.

“Katahdin Trust knows how important the Cary Classic is to improving access to quality healthcare here in Aroostook County. As pPresident of the Jefferson Cary Foundation, I have the privilege of seeing the tremendous impact this fundraiser has by providing resources we can invest in Cary Medical Center,” said Craig Staples, senior vice president and municipal services officer. “We have been honored to serve as the Corporate Sponsor for 12 consecutive years and look forward to continuing to do so going forward.”

Katahdin Trust Company also raised an additional $1,000 for Cary Medical Center during the tournament through its popular Cornhole for a Cause challenge.

The event featured a food truck and a silent auction, with donations from numerous area businesses as well as the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins and Portland Sea Dogs.

The Cary Classic Benefit Golf Tournament remains the Jefferson Cary Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser. Since its inception, the tournament has raised more than $500,000 to support equipment purchases, facility improvements, and other initiatives that enhance patient care at Cary Medical Center.

“The Cary Classic has become more than a golf tournament. It’s a celebration of community and a shared commitment to keeping exceptional healthcare close to home,” Anderson said. “Seeing familiar faces return each year while welcoming new participants is what makes this event so special, and we’re excited to continue building on that tradition.”
