To the editor:
Happy holidays from the University of Maine at Presque Isle. We are completing the teaching and learning of first semester over the next 10 days. We then move to final examinations. At the same time, we are getting ready for holiday celebrations that involve the entire community. We call your attention to four events and hope you can join us for one or more.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, the University will be the ending point of the Annual Holiday Light Parade. Whether you are participant or spectator, join us after the parade concludes at the President’s House, 171 Main Street. Hot chocolate and coffee will return warmth to the body. Good friends, old and new, will encourage the Holiday spirit. And, as a special event, we will illuminate the giant pine tree in front of the President’s House for the first time in the Holiday Season.
On Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m., UMaine Presque Isle and the Reed Art Gallery are honored to welcome one of Maine’s most distinguished artists – Fred Lynch. A reception at the Reed Art Gallery in the Campus Center will mark the opening of Fred’s exhibition “Divisions.” The artist will speak about his work. Refreshments will be served.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, Linda Zillman and I will open the President’s House for the Annual Community Open House. Casual dress, good food and drink: a great chance to visit with friends and neighbors. Give Ethelyn Boyd a call (768-9525) for details.
Finally, on Saturday, Dec. 15 and Sunday, Dec. 16, the UMPI Owls will host the Star City Classic, sponsored by Coca Cola, Graves Shop ‘N Save, Katahdin Trust, and the University. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be in action at the Wieden Gym. Eight games over two days provide a hoops feast.
From all of us at the University of Maine at Presque Isle — students, faculty, staff — we wish you the happiest of holiday seasons. We’ll see you at UMPI.
Don Zillman,
president
