Eagle Kellie Peers led outside shooting with two three-pointers added to eight points in the game. Kalli Cote led with nine points, and Melanie Allen also pitched in with eight points.
Bears against Beavers
The Easton Bears guarded their basket and kept up a constant attack against the Washburn net for a 72-40 final score in their favor on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
With the knowledge of their opponents and their home court, the Easton boys went one-up on the Beavers in the first quarter, 18-17, and never relinquished the lead.
Washburn shot for a close score in the first half, but the Bears took off in the third quarter.
Easton’s Jeremy Brock totaled 23 points followed by Brad Trask with 17. Sam Bacon hit the glass right for 12 points, and Nick Flewelling added another 10 points.
Washburn’s Nick McIntosh led his team with 17 points.
The Washburn girls’ preserved their perfect 4-0 record at Easton on Tuesday, Dec. 18 with a 51-11 final.
Beaver Kelsie McLaughlin scored the team-high 12 points. Bear Sydney Trask shot for five points in Easton’s effort.
Last Thursday night, senior Beaver Rachel Palmer tipped the ball into the hoop to lead the Washburn girls to another victory with 17 points and powered away her opponents for 10 rebounds.         The girls defeated Southern Aroostook, 48-35.
“It wasn’t as pretty as some of our other games, but it was still a win,” commented head coach Ron Ericson. “We really tried to pressure the ball and … we got the ball up the floor where we needed to be.”
The Beavers continue to have a high shooting percentage, as well. McLaughlin added 14 points and Rebecca Campbell 13 to their scoring statistics.

“We changed up and did a lot of different types of defenses,” noted Ericson. While a long road remains to tournament in Bangor, Washburn continued right with a 5-0 record into their break.
The Washburn boys opened scoring in their home game against Van Buren last Thursday night, but the Crusaders answered back and took the lead.
The Beavers pounded the floor boards and forced turnovers to fight back to within one point of a tie, 28-27 Van Buren, at the half.         However, Washburn couldn’t shutdown the Crusaders who had the upper-hand in the end, 66-41.
Evan Sperrey claimed the team-high scoring record with 16 points, followed by teammate McIntosh with 13.
