Leesville, LA – Funeral services for Mr. Cyr were at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Smart & Son with Rev. Gill Arthur officiating with burial in Cooper Cem, Pickering.
Bernie passed away April 5, at his residence after a long illness.
A native of Caribou, Maine, he was stationed at Fort Polk where he met and married his wife of 53 years. He was a partner and manager of Leesville Concrete for almost 30 years along with his Trucking Company (B&B Trucking Co., Inc.) He was a member of the Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce and the Leesville Lion’s Club, the Vernon Parish Cattleman’s Association, and East Leesville Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his parents David and Zowie Corrow Cyr of Caribou, Maine, one brother Gerald Cyr and a sister Francis Tirone.
He leaves his wife Lorene Hodnett Cyr of Leesville; a son David and his wife Becky Cyr of Leesville; and three daughters Cindy and her husband Gary Thornton of Baton Rouge; Linda Cyr DeRush of Leesville and Crystal and her husband Richard Picou of Baton Rouge; along with 11 grandchildren: Michael, Ashley, Timothy, Ryan, Gabrielle, Alexis, Augustus, Matthew, Jacob, Richard and True. He also is survived by three brothers Peter , Larry and Dana all of Caribou, Maine; and three sisters, Regina Tirone of South Weymouth, Mass., Marilyn Shiver, of Valsta, GA, and Donna Cyr of Caribou, Maine.
Pallbearers are James Jeter, Jimmy Mayeaux, Willie Stephens, Perry Meeks, Wesley Coffman and Vernon McRae.
Some of the many things that he enjoyed were to travel in his motor home and to hunt in Borene, Texas, along with operating a dozer or a backhoe or any other heavy equipment, he loved to provide for his family, He will be greatly missed. He was loved by his family and friends.
A special thank-you to Hospice of Leesville for their compassion and help. They are truly angels sent from God.
Visitation started at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and continue until service time.
