WASHBURN – An ambulance crew responding to a call in Washburn recently found themselves in need of help when their vehicle was involved in crash on Main St. involving a farm truck.

“I was called to the scene on April 8 around 8:30 a.m. Crown Ambulance was responding to a call in Washburn, traveling north on Main St. As they approached the Canaan Ave. intersection, a farm truck made a left turn as the ambulance attempted to pass, resulting in a collision between the two,” said Chief of Police Doug Conroy.
Both vehicles landed on property owned by Keith Brown.
“There was some damage to the lawn but the snow prevented the vehicles from reaching the home,” said Conroy.
Ambulance driver Benjamin Everett, 23, of Fort Fairfield, was shaken up a bit. Travis Ginn, 33, was in the front passenger seat and suffered abrasions due to the air bag. John Corcoran, 25, was sitting in the jump seat in the rear of the ambulance and complained of leg pain. The ambulance crew was reportedly wearing seatbelts.
The driver of the farm truck was identified as Jason Libby, 29, of Woodland. He complained of bumping his head in the accident. Libby wasn’t wearing his seatbelt. The 1985 International bulk truck is registered to Irving and Marr Farms of Woodland.
Everyone was treated at the scene.
“The farm truck sustained damage to the left side estimated at $20,000. The ambulance sustained about $30,000-$40,000 in damage to the right side and box,” said Conroy.
Due to a ruptured fuel tank and fuel leak, DEP was on the scene for cleanup.
“Fuel was pumped out of the truck, so there was very little spilled,” said Conroy.
Personnel from Washburn Public Works were on the scene to assist. Bernier’s Towing hauled both vehicles away.
No charges were brought and the case is closed, according to Conroy.
