SACS announces 2008 honors

    DYER BROOK – Principal Jonathan Porter at Southern Aroostook Community School is pleased to announce the Honor Parts for the Class of 2008.

Valedictorian Kim Lyons

   Kimberly R. Lyons, valedictorian, is the daughter of Richard and Terri Lyons of Dyer Brook. Lyons serves as vice-president of the Senior class, is a member of the National Honor Society and has worked for Dollars for Scholars throughout high school. She was chosen as Girls State Delegate and has been chosen by staff and students as Student of the Quarter. Lyons was the recipient of the Maine Principals' Award and she also received the Maine High School Junior Academic Achievement award.
    She plans to attend University of Maine at Presque Isle in the fall to study accounting.

Salutatorian Kylie Kennedy

   Kylie Kennedy, salutatorian, is the daughter of Torri Bates of Smyrna Mills, and Craig Kennedy of Merrill. She has served as both president and vice-president of her class. She also serves as vice-president of the Student Council. Kennedy is a member of the National Honor Society and has worked for Dollars for Scholars. She attended Dirigo Girls State. She was chosen by staff and students as Student of the Quarter, placed third in the Science Fair and has been recognized for her achievements at the Houlton Rotary.
    Kennedy will be attending Eastern Maine Community College in the fall in the medical radiography program.

First Honor Essayist Melanie Forest

    Melanie Forest, first honor essayist, is the daughter of Craig and Cathy Kennedy of Merrill, and James Wilson of Ames, Iowa. She is a member of the National Honor Society. She was chosen by staff and students as Student of the Quarter and has worked many years in Dollars for Scholars. Forest received the Princeton Book Award. She has served as secretary of her class and was recognized for her achievement at the Houlton Rotary.
    Forest plans to attend Northern Maine Community College studying business administration.

Second Honor Essayist Kelly Grant

    Kelly Grant, second honor essayist, is the daughter of Michael and Carilynn Hanson of Crystal. She was the recipient of the Maine Youth Leadership Award. She has received various academic awards – excellence in French, high average in Biology, outstanding student in Algebra II, excellence in College Geometry, perfect attendance (2005-2006) and was chosen Student of the Quarter by staff and students. She has also received sports recognition in soccer, basketball and softball.
    Grant plans to attend Husson College majoring in elementary education.
