Local kids need positive influence

To the editor:
I would like to take this time to respond to Kim Milbury’s July 30th letter to the editor. Although Kim has a compelling argument, she is short-sighted on two keys points. She asks us “How fair is it to force the field on us when we have no vested interest.” She also wondered if we should have a say if this impacts the comfort on our homes and our way of life.     The truth is my fellow citizens that what will make your homes less comfortable is not allowing a football field or anything that promotes a healthy and lifestyle for our youth. Thus we do have a vested interest as citizens.
In today’s youth culture, the kids need positive influence for decisions that for some will keep them out of the Court News later. The youth football league can do this for it will keep the kids off the streets and make them less likely to become juvenile delinquents. In America, 2 percent of our youth are delinquents and that number is going to be rising in the next two decades. Thus the truth is, if we do not support the new football field we will have an increasing problem with youth being successfully tempted to use drugs, vandalize property, and making other poor decisions.
In order to support the right path for our youth, we must keep the youth in mind and not get caught in the short-sighted self interests that the citizens against the field believe in. So in fact to protect your way of life here in our wonderful county, we need to promote positive youth activities like a football field.
