If preliminary games weren’t obligatory, Easton would have headed to Bangor.
According to pre-tournament heal point standings, the Bears were seeded eighth, one spot above ninth-seeded Bangor Christian.
But this is basketball, and upsets happen. Easton’s season finished last Wednesday at home as the Bears fell to the Bangor Christian Patriots 59-37.
Easton spent the better part of this year’s season with second-half runs and late-game wins, something coach Travis Carter said they needed to work on. Carter had hoped to bring consistency to the game, and an offensive aggression early on. But the Bears fell behind 16-5 in th irst quarter and trailed 28-11 at the half, unable to recover.
Seniors Brad Trask and Sam Bacond did their best to lead the team, both with 14 points at game’s end but despite adding 26 points to their score in the second half, Easton’s fate seemed already sealed.
The Patriots played a solid defense and went from 28-59 in the second half. Patriot Brett Bradford netted 23 points.
