The Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors matched up against Woodland in their Class D semifinal game last Saturday in Dyer Brook.
The Dragons reached the Lady Warriors for a 4-1 lead in the first after Woodland’s Taylor Cochran belted a two-run homer, but the game was played evenly the rest of the way. However, the opening proved to be enough for the Dragons, who picked up an 8-5 victory to advance to the finals.

SAFE – Southern Aroostook’s Liz Goodall is safe at third base during last Thursday’s quarterfinal game against Ashland. The Lady Warriors defeated Ashland, 7-6, but fell in the semifinals to Woodland, 8-5.

The Lady Warriors committed three first-inning errors, which the Dragons capitalized on for the early lead. However, the Southern Aroostook girls rallied in the bottom of the third to score three runs to knot the game at 4-all, but the Dragons answered with a run in the top of the fourth. The Lady Warriors pressed again, tying the game in the sixth, 5-all. But, the Dragons behind Julia Nicholas’ three-run bases clearing triple would supply enough of a cushion for the win, as they held the Lady Warriors scoreless in their frame.
Evangeline Goodall gave up eight hits, five earned runs, while walking three and striking out five. She backed her own cause with two of SACS’ three hits, with a single and double. Olivia Raymond pounded out a double.
Woodland’s Shelby Bassett tossed the three-hitter, allowing one earned run, striking out 11 and walking two.

In the Lady Warriors’ quarterfinal game against visiting Ashland, Southern Aroostook eked out a 7-6 seven-inning win.
The Lady Warriors held a 2-1 lead after Shelby Hartin singled in two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Hornets responded with two runs in the third before SACS tied the score in their frame on a Hartin sacrifice fly to right field.
In the fourth inning, the Lady Warriors regained the lead, 6-3 on a Charette sacrifice fly to center  field, but the pesky Hornets were back in the top of the sixth when Miranda Donovan reached on fielder’s choice to bring in the tying run.

Then, Charette knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth with a single, as Cassie Garcelon had singled and was able to score from third base.
SACS’ Evangeline Goodall scattered nine hits, walking two and striking out four to pick up the win. Her sister Liz Goodall smacked two doubles, including one in the fourth for two RBIs.
