Horton, George D., Sr., 82, July 22, 2009.  Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton.  Interment was held in the Linneus Cemetery.
LINNEUS – George D. Horton, Sr., 82, died July 22, 2009, at his home. He was born May 27, 1927, in Atlantic City, N.J., son of Samuel and Hazel (Demery) Horton.
    He was a veteran of World War II, serving on the USS California. He was a former member of Cloverleaf Gun Club and a volunteer with the ambulance in New Jersey, and was a vegetable farmer and carpenter for several years.
    He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathryn (Beckman) Horton of Linneus; two children, George D. Horton Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Dyer Brook and Kathy and her husband, Steven Wiggins, of Houlton; three grandchildren, Lorraine and Peter Ingraham, Desiree and Nathan Willigar and Dustin Orr; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Layton and Sophia Willigar; five brothers, Stanley, Samuel, Bobby, David and James Horton; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Friends called 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, where funeral services were held 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Tuttle officiating. Interment was at Linneus Cemetery.
