Middle school squads from Caribou are enjoying a brief holiday break in the basketball action. The Caribou seventh grade girls are an impressive 9-0 on the season, while other Viking squads are experiencing a fair share of success on the hardwood.
The following is a recap of recent games.

At Caribou Dec. 22, the Vikings rolled past Presque Isle Blue 57-30. The Vikings led 11-8, 27-16 and 42-25 at the quarter breaks.
“The eighth graders had a strong second quarter thanks to good outside shooting and a tough man press to extend the lead to 11 at the half,” coach Steve Perreault said. “The Vikings wore down Presque Isle with outstanding pressure and bench depth. The team also hit five 3-pointers in the game.”
Pacing Caribou were: Breen Blackstone with 11 points, while Matt Frost added 10; Adam Collins, Matt Curry and Derek Richardson each netted six; and Kameron Manter and Michael Boone both had five.
For Presque Isle Blue, Cody Lyford led the way with 11 points, while Connor Seward added  six.
At Caribou Dec. 21, the Vikings eighth graders rolled to a 47-20 victory over Fort Kent. Caribou led 14-0, 28-7 and 40-11 at the quarter breaks.
“The Vikings ran out to an early lead behind a tough press to cruise to the win,” coach Perreault said. “Fort Kent had a cold shooting first half.”
Caribou’s balanced scoring was led by Cody Herbert with 10 points, while Dylan Berkoski, Richardson, and Frost each netted eight. Matt Milliard and Tyler Strid played solid defense the coach said.
Fort Kent’s Cody Plourde led all scorers with 14 points.
At Presque Isle Dec 15, Caribou defeated Presque Isle White 49-29. The two teams were tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter, before Presque Isle White went up 19-17 at halftime. A second-half surge sparked the Vikings as Caribou seized a 39-23 lead after three stanzas.
“Caribou’s full court press clamped down in the second half by limiting Presque Isle to only 10 total points in the second half,” coach Perreault said.
Caribou was led by Frost with 18 points, followed by Blackstone, 10; Richardson, six; Milliard, five, and Boone, two. For P.I. White, Mitch Ayotte scored 10 points.
At Houlton Dec. 14, in a game of previously unbeaten teams in the Aroostook A league, the Vikings fell 37-32. Caribou led 13-11 in the first quarter, but trailed 19-18 at halftime. Caribou went back up 25-24 after three stanzas, but could not hang on for the win.
“Caribou’s defense faltered in the last quarter and Houlton made numerous foul shots to get the win,” the coach said.
Caribou was led by Frost, with eight points, while Richardson added five. Manter played well defensively for the Vikings.

The Caribou seventh grade squad picked up its ninth win of the season Monday, Dec. 28 as the Vikings defeated Wisdom 43-40.  Hannah Graham led all scorers for the ninth straight game as she poured in 25 points, while Sarah Doak grabbed double-digit rebounds and added eight points. Erin Patton chipped in six points, while Emilee Susi and Abbi Theriault each scored had two.
Leading Wisdom was Courtney Ouellette with 18 points, while Alyssa Dumond added 10.
Caribou (9-0) led 22-4, 26-14 ad 43-21 at the quarter breaks.
On Dec. 18, the Vikings dodged another bullet, this time against Presque Isle Blue as Caribou won 38-35.
“The team played through much adversity in a game that was as close as your last breath,” coach John Habeeb said.
The teams were tied 9-9 after the first quarter, tied 19-19 at halftime, and Presque Isle had a 29-27 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Pacing the Vikings was Graham, with 25 points, while Doak chipped in 11 points and 16 rebounds. Patton managed only two points, but came up with two game-saving steals late in the fourth quarter.  Emilee Susi, Makayla Bouchard, and Abbi Theriault all played well defensively, the coach said.
