Palmer takes first in home meet
PRESQUE ISLE – All the Aroostook County cross country teams convened at the University of Maine at Presque Isle Friday for a competition held on a 3.2-mile course in ideal weather conditions for running.
Alecia Palmer of Presque Isle dominated the girls race by winning by a 1:15 margin. Palmer’s time was 21:14, with Caribou’s Mackenzie Belyea taking second place in 22:29, followed by Mary Jo Sheehan and Dayna Michaud, both of Caribou, in 22:32 and 22:53, respectively. Taking fifth place was Carsyn Koch of Washburn in 23:01.
Emily Wright of Presque Isle (23:16) came in sixth in the meet. Christian Sleeper of Caribou placed first in the boys race in 17:36, with teammate D.J. Flynn the runner-up in 17:52.
The third-place finisher was another Caribou runner, Caleb Chapman, whose time was 18:09, while Presque Isle’s Matt Eager and Logan Thibeau were fourth and fifth, respectively. Eager’s time was 18:43, while Thibeau came in at 19:30.
Nick Bragg of Washburn came in sixth in 19:59. Coming in 10th was Saul Nunez of Presque Isle in 20:30.
In the team results, the Caribou girls and boys both were winners. The Viking girls scored 19 points, with PI second at 40. The Viking boys tallied 19 points, followed by PI with 40 and Fort Kent with 83.
The Sectional Meet in Old Town is next for the Caribou and Presque Isle squads and will be run at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
