Local teams meet each other in action

    Local high school soccer teams had a few games last week as the season nicely gets under way.
    On Saturday, the Katahdin Cougars (0-2) were shut out 9-0 by host Bangor Christian, 1-0.
    Cougar goalie Cody Brownlee had 24 saves against 41 shots faced.
    Last Friday, the East Grand girls soccer team defeated Shead, 5-3, in Eastport behind Shaunna Beaudoin’s three goals. Lindsay Morse netted the other two goals for East Grand.
    Last Thursday in Stacyville, the Southern Aroostook Warriors overtook host Katahdin, 6-1.
    Pat Goodall led the Warriors with three goals and two assists, while Cody Lassonde scored and picked up an assist. Parker Walker and Cameron Landry had the other tallies.
    Goalies Jesse Boulier and Will McGary combined for three saves on five shots for the 1-1-1 winners.
    For Katahdin in its opener, Victor Cloukey had the Cougars’ lone goal, while Jesse McNally and Brownlee combined in the net to stop eight of 20 shots faced.
    Last Tuesday, the Hodgdon/GHCA cooperative boys soccer team fell to Wisdom, 3-1 in St. Agatha.
    The Pioneers built a 3-0 lead behind Joe Lizotte’s two goals before Josh Hudson scored for the 2-1 Hodgdon/GHCA squad.
    Hodgdon goalie Erik Ryan set aside 11 of 18 shots faced.
    For Wisdom, Nathan Oates stopped 15 of 19 shots.
    On Aug. 29, the Southern Aroostook girls blanked visiting Hodgdon, 11-0, as goalie Mallery Lawlor stopped all three Hodgdon shots on goal. Jillian Diaferio led the scoring with four goals and two assists. Olivia Raymond scored twice and added an assist, as Kaitlyn Sommers, Desirae Dubois, Elizabeth Bishop, Taylor Desmond and Katie Prescott each scored for the 1-0-1 Lady Warriors.
    For Hodgdon, 0-2, Kim Levesque was peppered with 27 shots, coming up with 16 saves.
    In boys action, the Hodgdon/GHCA team defeated visiting Southern Aroostook on Devon Quint’s goal midway through the second half. On a throw-in, the ball bounced between two Warriors defenders, with Quint trapping the ball and sneaking it in under the goalie.
    Hodgdon goalie Ryan turned back 18 of 24 shots for the 2-0 winners. For Southern Aroostook, Boulier and McGary combined to stop two of three shots faced, as the Warriors are 0-1-1.
